How Much Do Packaging Boxes with a Logo Cost — What Drives the Price

This question comes up in the very first message from almost every company: how much does packaging with a logo cost? The honest answer is: “it depends” — not to dodge the topic, but because the price of a printed box or bag is made up of several elements at once. Instead of quoting ranges that drift away from reality anyway, we show you exactly what moves the price. Once you understand these few factors, you’ll be able to work out for yourself where the savings are — and why two seemingly similar quotes can differ.

Why there is no single price list

Custom packaging is not a catalogue product. Every project has a different size, a different structure, a different print and a different run size — and each of these parameters shifts the price on its own. A ready-made price list would either be heavily inflated (just in case) or misleading. That’s why we quote for a specific product. The good news: a few pieces of information are enough to get a preliminary quote — we come back to that at the end.

What really affects the price — 6 factors

1. Size and structure

The larger the packaging, the more material — that’s the simplest relationship. But the type of structure matters too: a plain flap box is cheaper than a self-assembling die-cut one, and those in turn are cheaper than a lid-and-base or drawer construction. A more elaborate form means more board, a more complex cutting die and more work during assembly.

2. Material and grammage

The type of paper (kraft, white, corrugated board) and its grammage affect the cost as well as the look and durability. Thicker board protects better but costs more. Choosing the grammage is a compromise between protection and price — we describe it in the comparison kraft board or white.

3. Run size — the biggest lever on unit price

This is the factor that reduces the price per unit the most. Preparation costs (design, cutting die, machine setup) are fixed — independent of the number of units. The larger the run, the less of that cost falls on each pack:

Run size Price per unit
500 pcs (minimum run) Highest — fixed costs spread over the fewest units
1000–2000 pcs Noticeably lower — the most common choice for brands
3000+ pcs Lowest — fixed costs vanish when spread per unit

That’s why it’s worth ordering a run you’ll realistically sell within a reasonable time, rather than a minimum “just to try”. We break down the entry threshold in the guide MOQ — minimum order quantity.

4. Print — surface area and number of colours

A logo in a single colour is a different cost than full, colourful coverage of the whole surface. The price of the print is affected primarily by the number of colours and the printed area. Printing on white (true CMYK colours) behaves differently than on kraft (1–2 colours, foil stamping) — more on that in printed packaging.

5. Finishes and add-ons

UV varnish, hot stamping (gold foil), embossing, lamination, inserts and dividers — these are separate line items that raise both the cost and the perceived value of the packaging. It’s worth including them from the start, because added later they can be a surprise in the quote. For premium lines they are often what sets a “nice box” apart from a “gift effect”.

6. One-off preparation costs

The cutting die and machine setup are costs incurred once, at the first production of a given model. On a repeat order of the same packaging this part disappears or drops sharply — which is why top-ups to an existing project tend to be more favourable in price than the first launch.

What does NOT raise the price with us

Two things that are chargeable at some suppliers are included with us:

  • Structural design and print preparation — we do them at no extra charge.
  • Visualisation for approval — before production you see the final look of the packaging and approve it before anything goes to the machine.

Example: how run size changes the bill

Imagine the same box with a single-colour logo. The preparation costs are identical for 500 and 2000 units — the only difference is how many units you spread them over. At 500 units the whole “entry fee” is carried by 500 boxes; at 2000 — four times as many units carry the same cost, so the unit price drops, even though you’re ordering more. That’s why the question “how much does one unit cost” only makes sense at a specific run size.

Frequently asked questions

Can you give an approximate price without a design?
Yes — the dimensions, type of packaging and run size are enough for us to prepare a preliminary quote. We’ll refine it once the print and any add-ons are settled.

Are the design and visualisation charged extra?
No. Structural design, print preparation and visualisation for approval are included in the price.

What is the minimum order quantity?
From 500 units. A larger run = a lower price per unit, because the preparation costs are spread over more packs.

Is a repeat order cheaper?
Usually yes — on a reprint of the same model the one-off costs of preparing the cutting die and part of the setup disappear.

How long does production take?
We count the lead time from design approval and the deposit payment: boxes usually 10–20 working days (around 15 on average), paper bags 20–25 working days.
